Midwest Balloon Festival

The Midwest Balloon Festival is something that Joshua counts down to. It was our third year to go and Mama and Papa came to.  We decided to step it up a notch and surprise the kids with a tethered balloon ride. Let me take that back, we wanted to surprise Joshua with the balloon ride.  We thought Sadie would be petrified.  However she claimed she wanted to go if Mommy went.   Yeah, Daddy and Mommy were right.  She was terrified.  But the rest of us had fun!

One of my favorite pics of my Mama:)

Papa and Sadie took a stab at the chicken toss

She just adores her brother!

One excited kid!  And one that can't take her eyes off of the balloon.  But not for joyful reasons.  As stated earlier.  Sadie does not like things that are unpredictable and she really does not like loud noises.  So it was a double wammy, but we didn't want to discourage her from trying it if she said she could do it.

Joshua has turned his fear of loud noises into more of an insane curiosity.   He was sooooo excited to ride on the balloon!  Talk has already started that he now wants to take a balloon ride for his birthday.  Sorry bud, not happening any time soon!

Wish the picture could capture Sadie's sheer terror and Joshua's glee.  I think the poor girl aged years from that experience.  Joshua was in heaven though:).

Yay!  We landed safely and Sadie is spent!

The Elders performed to wrap up the evening.  Our family loves to dance so it was great having a dance party outside!  Sadie was mesmerized by the song, "Men of Erin" and requested it almost every night for the next few weeks as our lullaby at bed time.  It made me smile:).

The morning after the Balloon Glow, the festival hosts a balloon race.  This may be our favorite part of the fun.  We hop in the car in our pajamas because it is so early for a Saturday morning, bring some snacks and go chase balloons.  It is amazing how close you can get to them!  We open the sunroof and actually talk to the, would  you call them, drivers?.  And it's fun to see them land!  The pictures really don't do the race justice.
