Just Like Old TImes

Have you ever been to a fort? Well, Fort Osage, which dates back to Louis and Clark's time, is about 45 minutes from our house. It was a Kilgore family tradition in the fall to pack up for a day trip of fort fun, picking apples at the apple orchard, and then heading to a honey bee farm. All in one location! As Art will tell you, I have the unfortunate need to recreate the past. So of course I wanted my kids to experience this fun tradition! Joshua decided that he and Sadie should dress in stripes to honor the bees we would be seeing that day (so cute!). We picked up Paca, Grandma Clare, and Mimi and headed out on a beautiful 70 degree day.

Too bad the Indians did not send in a group of three year olds to conquer the fort back in the day because Joshua was in and done in about a half an hour! He got a kick out of the train bridge though! We hit up the apple orchard for some of the best peaches I have ever had. So good that Joshua and I killed all three in one sitting! Then off to the honey bee farm! Oh, but wait, it closed down much to our disappointment...about ten years ago! Geez! Shows how long it had been since we went!
Train on the bridge crossing the Missouri River...does it get any more cool?

Ok, so any one that knows me knows how much I dislike animal fur. Augh. Fortunately Joshua was intrigued but disgusted as well. He said this bear must have done something really naughty! Lol...kind of....

Our little bees

Saturday we headed out to Church of the Resurrection for our first family 5K! HEY!! GO US!! :) The race is called Sacred Steps and was raising money to set up a clinic for HIV/AIDS patients in Africa. It was so much fun and Joshua can't wait to do another one. He even did the kids run (as seen below). Unfortunately, he missed the "start" and was looking around for us, so I ran it with him....just the two of us...Hopefully his time will improve....But I shouldn't be talking....

Afterwards the race with Pastor Adam Hamilton. I walked up to the only person I saw standing alone to take our picture and it was Pastor Hamilton! Art was not pleased when I asked him to join, but hey, what a fun memory??!!

Run, Joshua, Run!!

She has some positive endorphins going:)!

On Sunday, Paca and Grandma Clare were sweet enough to watch the kids while Art and I hit up my FAVORITE KC EVENT!! The Plaza Art Fair!! It was our first date since early summer and wow! Was it much needed! I miss my hot hubby dates:)!
