Trains, Weddings, and Visitors...Oh My!

May came and went with lots of activities. Joshua did a stellar job keeping up with his less-than-perfect schedule. For Mother's Day, we went to Jack Stack to celebrate my Mom's birthday. Art was so happy to have an excuse to go since his meat selection is not very strong at home being that Joshua typically shares Mommy's opinions on meat:). It was a worthwhile trip to see Joshua in the KC stockyards. The boy LOVES trains. Loves them so much that it even trumped seeing Mimi on her birthday...his other two loves...Mimi and birthday parties! After watching several chug by, and waving furiously to each, one kind conductor was nice enough to lean out the window, wave back and toot the horn a few times. The little man almost died from excitement and so did we from his smile:).

The biggest event in May was my brother Steven and his fiance Lyndsey's wedding. Joshua was pretty grumpy at the rehearsal dinner thanks to a small amount of sleep and far too much sugar from well meaning friends:), but managed to be a show-stopper as he practiced making it down the aisle, sweetly holding his co-ring bearer's hand and then taking off in a exuberant trot.

Although official wedding pictures have not come back yet (we are dying to see them!), Joshua looked so gosh darn cute in his tux! I wish he could wear one every day! As with so many weddings of those close to you, we failed to get many of our own pictures. Shucks! Too busy having fun I guess. For his big job, he clutched his little pillow and took off down the aisle, grinning ear to ear. Instead of turning into his correct pew with Papa and Mimi, he marched right up the alter, past the groomsmen and started to head for the priests. Fortunately Daddy grabbed him before he got to give his thoughts on the service:). At the reception, he hated to part with the dance floor, even for some mac 'n' cheese. He has some sweet moves that he would love to share with anyone that wants to see. It was so good to catch up with family that we have not seen in so long and Joshua loved chatting it up with his extended family, some we have not even seen since our wedding!

Memorial Day brought some of our favorite visitors, Grandpa Cal and Grandma Katy! Joshua was so excited to see them and talked about it ALL week. On the morning of their arrival, I explained to Joshua that we had a VERY, VERY busy day. It was Friday, the biggest day of the week in our house, aka- VACUUM DAY. Joshua is obsessed with vacuums and talks about Friday the vacuum day all week. Yes, best day of the week for a two year old. I told him we needed to go to the store, bake cookies and bread, dust, VACUUM, take a nap, and then Grandpa Cal and Grandma Katy will come after a nap. Expecting him to go nuts with the thought of "vacuum day", he paused then immediately laid back down and said, "Nap now. Grandma Katy". Translation: I will nap now and speed up the process so Grandma can get her sooner. It was so sweet and I hated to break it to him that it did not work that way. So Grandpa and Grandma trump vacuums. Wow! Needless to say, it was a fabulous weekend!
