The Jelly Prayer

Like many kids at bedtime, we have Joshua say his prayers before tucking him under the covers. Mind you this follows a bath (most days) and many books so we have done our "settling down". He often uses this little time to his advantage to stay up later. Anyone relate? Tonight, he gave me an interesting one.

Me: Okay, what prayer are we going to say tonight.
J: How about the honey prayer.
Me: Well I don't know how that one goes nor do I think it is real so pick a new one, buddy.
J: YES! It IS real.
Me: Okay, so how does it go?
J: Well, I can't remember right now.
Me: So pick a new one.
J: How about the jelly prayer.
Me: Joshua, when we say prayers, we are talking to God. He loves us very much and He doesn't want us to be silly when we pray. Pick a new one.
J: Mom, you said that God is always the happiest when we sing. And I like to sing.
Me: Yes, God likes you to sing. Would you like to sing something tonight?
J: Yeah. I will sing the Jelly Prayer.
Me: Joshua, be serious.
J: (Stated with much passion) I AM!! God made jelly and jelly tastes good and he made jelly fish which have lots of jelly in them so God really likes jelly and He wants to hear how I like it too.
Me: Fine, have at it.
J: (In a beautiful singing voice) Oh jelly prayer, jelly prayer. This is the jelly prayer. God you made jelly. Jelly, jelly, jelly, this is the jelly prayer.
Me: Thank you.
J: God likes it when I sing.
Me: Yes, I hope God enjoyed that. Why don't you tell Him what you are thankful for.
J: Hmmm. I am thankful for trees. And apples. And pears. And trees that have the pears.
Me: Oh I am too. Good choices.
J: And kiwi. And bananas. And blueberries. And oreos. And honey. And alarms because they keep us safe. (PAUSE)
Me: Anything else?
J: Well, jelly. Amen.
:)
