Jumpin' Up and Down He's Five Years Old!

Our newly FIVE year old, yes, FIVE YEAR OLD, turned five on Easter.  When you're older, a birthday on a holiday is not that big a deal.  But as a kid, you may feel it's a bit unfair.  So we decided to dedicate the day before Easter to Joshua and have some fun celebrating!

With a lot of coaxing, he planned the whole day himself.  The toughest thing was getting him to stick to one specific plan.  It changed daily which his planner parents struggled with!    But the day was so much fun and wow did we ever cram in a lot!!

(On a side note, I hope to do a post in the weeks to come to paint a better picture of each kiddo beyond party pics.  If I can stay focused it will happen!! Until then, a picture recap is the best I can give!)

Our annual family tradition of birthday balloons in the hallway when you wake up on your birthday!

Loving his choice of birthday dessert, Aunt Pat's sheet cake.....yummy!!  And his school birthday hat had plenty of use over the course of the weekend.

This was his face when he realized what his big birthday gift was....yep!  Pop a Shot!!  Not sure who was more excited for this, Joshua, Daddy or Mommy!!  A little family competition is always a good thing!

Although he had never tried them before, he caught word that we used to make homemade donuts when I was little.  He was so excited to try this out for his birthday breakfast!

For his birthday party with the fam, he wanted to have turkey sandwiches with mac and cheese.  A hit in all of our books!  And he wanted to decorate Easter eggs as a family.  Love the efficiency of celebrating a birthday and Easter at the same time!

Present time!!

Joshua LOVES baseball! Not only does he love it, but he has a pretty good eye for the sport!  Uncle Steven, Aunt Linda, and Aunt Lyndsey got him a bat, glove, and will be signing him up for a class this summer!  Awesome gift!

Sadie really thought it was her birthday:).  And big brother was so sweet to humor her and share in the opening of gifts.

I was so excited about this purchase!  The sign says, "Sometimes being a Brother is better than being a Superhero".  What I love even more is their faces in this picture!  Ha!

Dad surprised him with a Hawkeye B-ball

Paca and Clare hit a home run with the T ball/ pitching machine!

Trying out his new bat in the yard.  Wish we had a picture that captured how no adult wanted to pitch for fear of being hit by him!

During naptime, Joshua wanted to go roller skating for the first time.  I love roller skating although it has been since probably grade school that I did it.  Daddy did not enjoy the skating part so much but he had fun with us.  I think the fun was mostly had in how often Joshua took me down with him!

No, we don't have a new family member;).  Next on the birthday list was going to Land of Paws to play with puppies and pick out his birthday twin, Masey, a birthday treat.  Yep, our dog shares the same birthday as Joshua!  How random is that?!

Dinner?  He decided to stay in and make homemade spinach and artichoke dip for dinner.  Nothing else.  And isn't that what birthdays are all about?  Getting things exactly the way you like them???

Happy fifth birthday to the smartest, music loving, sweetest, most handsome, sincerest, most creative, quirky, happy go lucky boy we know who always manages to march to the beat of his own drum!  We are so proud of the person you are becoming and feel so blessed to call you our son!  Just wish life would slow down, little man, because you are getting too big to fast!  We love you to the moon and back!
