SADIE MAKENA MILNES
Baby Pink is officially a girl!! Toddler intuition is correct! Sadie Makena Milnes joined our family on February 19th, 2011 at 12:53 pm. She is PERFECT and we are already so in love! She weighed 8 lb. 6 oz. and was 19 1/2 in. long. We had narrowed the girls names down, but had not made an official decision as I stated in an earlier post so forgive us for the delay in name release. Sadie is a form of Sarah and means princess which Daddy loved. He put it at the top of our list when we were pregnant with Joshua. Makena is after Makena beach on Maui. My family feel in love with this special spot when I was little and I had the opportunity to share it with Art a couple of years ago and it quickly became one of his favorite spots on Earth too:). As of my appointment on Friday, I still had not progressed past a 1 1/2 in dilatation and no effacement so we were planning on being induced this coming Monday. So needless to say, we were a little surprised when my water broke at 1:15 am that very night! We had been at a fundraiser earlier in the evening for KU Med Student Mission Trips that Aunt Lyndsey had co-chaired so we are not sure if it was being on my feet walking around (not likely since I chase a toddler all day) or if it was the full moon, but by 2:30 am we were at the hospital! Strange too because when we hopped in bed at about midnight, the dog would not leave my side. She usually likes to be next to Art. We laughingly wondered if she was onto something. Animal intuition is so cool!
It was a slow start but by afternoon, they checked me and I was at a 6 with close to full effacement, fast forward a half an hour and I was fully dialated and ready to push! They say the second can come much faster but wow! Just a couple pushes and she was here! Sadie is a healthy little girl and I'm feeling great! I'm one of those crazy girls that really loves the labor experience and fortunately enjoyed it with little pain thanks to epidurals....which does not bode well for Art since I want to experience it more often....Wink, wink;)! And speaking of Daddy, he is so adorable with his Sadie already. She immediately was drawn to his voice (as well as Joshua's)! She is quite the Daddy's girl which is so darn cute!
We were so, so happy we waited to find out too! I know that every birth is exciting, but nothing can describe the euphoric feeling of seeing that little body and then waiting for the "It's a boy/girl!!" It was kind of funny because the doctor had her all squished up and we could not tell the sex for what seemed like twenty/thirty seconds before the doctor said it.....or Art thinks she said it. My nurse and I swore it was Art that finally called it:). Needless to say we were both crying and just ecstatic!
Joshua is a dream older brother! He just sits and whispers too her and wants to snuggle her. He does not like the nurses making her cry and immediately jumped to grab diapers and wipes when she had her first dirty diaper. When he meet her, without any prompting, he snuggled up next to her and whispered, "You are my baby." It was so cute! He also requested a "family hug" (aka group hug) and told her that he was going to teach her to vacuum! Love his priorities! Hopefully this gentleness lasts when we get home, but who am I kidding!
We truly appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers throughout our pregnancy and delivery and can't wait for each of you to meet our little Sadie!!
