We made our final trek north for the summer to visit Art's Grandma Arlene for a family reunion. Grandma lives in DeWitt, Iowa, close to Clinton and the Mississippi River. We drove half way on Thursday to stay in Des Moines. Since we got to bed late, we assumed Joshua would sleep in a little. Not only did he decide not to sleep in, he woke up at 5:30 am! Since Daddy and Mommy "don't do" that kind of a wake up call, we pulled him into bed with us. About 40 minutes of silence passed. Then Joshua sat up and said, "Go home and take naps. Don't like this Des Moines." After a good laugh, we decided that it was time to get going.
Friday night we met up with Grandpa Cal, Grandma Katy, Uncle Mike and Aunt Krista in Clinton for some dinner at KFC that Joshua chowed down. The man can't pass up his chicken, mashed potatoes, and biscuits...what can we say! Then we headed back for a dip at the hotel pool where he got to experience his first "big bath", in adult talk that's a hot tub. It was not too hot so he thought he was living the high life in his mini pool!
Saturday we headed to the farm to see Grandma Arlene, Uncle Jerry and Aunt Jenny as well as Fritz the wiener dog, Joshua's new BFF. He LOVED being out in the country and we imagine he would live on a farm in a second if Daddy and Mommy offered to do so. So much for a little boy to do and explore! Our family reunion was that afternoon. Joshua loved making new friends with his distant family. It was so good to see so many little ones at a family function! That night we headed back to the farm for some pizza and good company:).
After a breakfast at the Village Inn on Sunday morning, thanks to Grandma Arlene, we hit the road. Joshua managed to again, eat more than most would say possible at breakfast, so he was in pleasant spirits for the car ride thank goodness. We played a ton of Eye Spy and Guess Who, two of his current favorite games and managed to listen to "Stinky Feet" (we think he believes it is an ode to his own piggies) a couple hundred times. He is quite the trooper and travel buddy! AND this time when we passed through Des Moines on the way home, he decided that it was not so bad after all:).
